Breadcrumbs in the Old Testament Jesus the Christ
2 minute readPrepare the way of the Lord
the voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight,’ ”
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version
(Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles, 2016), Mk 1:3.
3 A voice cries: “In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. 4 Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain. 5 And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version
(Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles, 2016), Is 40:3–5.
Keep in mind the book of Isiah was written during the eighth century BC, while the person who was born to prepare the way was born around ~6BC. So that’s a scripture written about John’s mission nearly 800 Years before his birth.
Other Thoughts
John the baptist was the voice who called out to the people to prepare their hearts, repent, be forgiven and prepare the way of the Lord.
John was preparing the “Road” for the coming of the messiah, once again, it is apparent he is not talking about a physical road, but a spiritual road. Repent, Be Baptized, Be Forgiven, there was no bricklaying or road paving of a physical road. But a road/way similar to what Matthew 7:13-14 speaks about, a road/way to salvation, the road which is difficult to find and even more difficult if you have not prepared your heart.
Quieting the Storm
And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version
(Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles, 2016), Mk 4:39.
28 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. 29 He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed. 30 Then they were glad that the waters were quiet, and he brought them to their desired haven. 31 Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man!
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version
(Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles, 2016), Ps 107:28–31.

Wow. This was something that needed to be heard, reading it from the PSALMS, really expanded on the love of the Father for all mankind. One day the storm of the world's chaos, its tumultuous shifting powers, its burning hate, violent anger, lust for power and its writhing in sin will be silenced once and for all, and those who mourn for the pains of this world will be comforted.
